Why do most dental practices avoid using scarcity or limits in their marketing?

Because it feels uncomfortable. The dentist trained to be helpful and accessible balks at ‘we have limited slots’ because it feels like turning patients away. The reality is the opposite. Practices with unlimited availability signal that nobody wants what they sell. Practices with thoughtful limits (selective consultation criteria, membership programs, treatment windows) signal that what they sell is worth having. The discomfort with takeaway selling is rooted in the wrong instinct, which is to maximize access. The right instinct is to maximize perceived value. Honest scarcity does both: it filters out wrong-fit patients and elevates the standing of right-fit ones who do get in. Most practices never get past the discomfort to use this lever.
