Should a dental practice run an application-based membership or treatment program?
For practices targeting complex cases, yes. An application-based program turns enrollment into a selection process, which compounds the scarcity signal. The application can be light (a short qualifying questionnaire, a quick phone interview) but its existence changes the dynamic. Patients no longer browse the practice. They apply to it. The status of being accepted into a program elevates the patient’s investment in the work that follows. Practices doing this well have application-based concierge programs, complete-care memberships, and specialized treatment pathways that require a formal qualifying step before scheduling. Implementation is light. The marketing benefit is heavy. Most patients respect the gatekeeping more than they resent it.
