Why do selling system checklists outperform improvised case presentations even when the improviser is talented?
Because consistency beats brilliance over time, and checklists deliver consistency that improvisation cannot. A gifted improviser can run a brilliant case presentation on a Tuesday afternoon when they are sharp. On a Friday after a hard day, with three more consults waiting, the same person will skip steps, forget a key qualifier, drop the follow-up cadence, or hand off poorly to the front desk. The patient on Friday gets a worse experience than the patient on Tuesday. The conversion rate reflects it. A checklist removes the variation. Every patient gets the same eight or twelve or seventeen steps, executed in the same order, with the same quality, regardless of which day or which team member is on point. The patient experience becomes reliable. The team trains faster because the work is documented. New hires reach competence in weeks instead of months. Improvisation feels skilled. Systems are skilled, at scale.
