Why isn’t the dentist usually needed at the dental question-and-answer follow-up appointment?

Because the questions that surface at Q&A appointments are almost always financial rather than clinical, and trained team members handle them effectively. The financial coordinator, treatment coordinator, or office manager typically runs the Q&A appointment. They walk the patient through any payment-option clarifications, financing details, scheduling logistics, insurance specifics, and other practical questions that emerged during the digestion period. The doctor’s clinical answers are rarely required because the clinical content was thoroughly covered at the case presentation. The doctor should still be in the practice during Q&A appointments and available to step in if a genuine clinical question surfaces, but the routine flow does not need them in the room. This protects the doctor’s time for clinical work while still serving the patient’s needs through the team. Practices that insist on the doctor being present at every Q&A consume doctor hours unnecessarily and often miss other clinical work. The team handles the predictable questions. The doctor stays available for the unpredictable ones.

If the answers you are finding here resonate with you, my team and I work with a small group of clients each year. The next step is a complimentary Discovery Consultation and Practice Review with Dr. McAnally.
