Do dental patients actually evaluate clinical competence when choosing a dentist?
No. Patients walk in assuming the dentist is competent. Certificates on the wall don’t influence them the way most doctors believe. Patients glance at them and move on. They are not equipped to evaluate clinical expertise and they know it. What they can evaluate, immediately and continuously, is whether the experience feels professional, whether they were listened to, whether the explanation made sense, and whether the team treats them like a person rather than a chart number. That assessment shapes their decision more than anything technical. This is why the practices that invest in communication systems consistently outperform practices that only invest in clinical credentials.
If the answers you are finding here resonate with you, my team and I work with a small group of clients each year. The next step is a complimentary Discovery Consultation and Practice Review with Dr. McAnally.
