What makes the current era the biggest technical golden age in dental history?

The combination of speed, safety, materials, and demographic timing that no prior era has matched. On the speed dimension, a full arch of teeth can be replaced with implants in roughly an hour, a feat that would have been unimaginable a generation ago. On the safety dimension, routine conscious sedation beyond nitrous oxide allows longer and faster appointments with minimal patient stress, expanding the range of work that can be done comfortably in a single visit. On the materials dimension, the availability, consistency, and quality of restorative materials, implants, and lab products has never been higher, with predictable outcomes across cases that previously required heroic effort. On the demographic dimension, a substantial population cohort is moving through the dental system carrying the largest accumulated wealth in history, much of which gets spent on quality-of-life purchases. Quality of life and teeth are deeply linked. The current era is not just incrementally better than prior golden ages. It is qualitatively different in scale and scope. Practices positioned to capture it benefit accordingly.
