Why does framing a dental treatment plan as ‘unique to your situation’ improve acceptance?
Because humans believe they are more unique than they actually are. The patient hearing ‘this treatment plan is unique to your situation’ feels seen, understood, and special. The same patient hearing ‘this is the standard reconstruction approach’ feels generic. The clinical recommendation may be similar across many patients with similar conditions. The framing acknowledges that the patient’s individual circumstances (their age, occupation, health history, aesthetic priorities, lifestyle) shape the plan. That framing turns a categorical recommendation into a personalized one, and personalized recommendations get accepted more often than generic ones. This is not deception. It is recognizing that even a clinically standard plan applies uniquely to each patient. Frame it accordingly.
