How does a written Case Report increase a dental patient’s understanding and willingness to accept treatment?

By giving the patient a structured, take-home document that covers everything they need to understand about their dental situation and the proposed treatment, in language they can actually read. Patients commonly leave consultations and case presentations remembering only fragments of what the doctor said, especially when significant fees were involved and emotions ran high. The Case Report fills that gap. It outlines the patient’s subjective complaints, the doctor’s objective findings, the three treatment options, relevant photographs and illustrations, and any other key information, all written for the average layperson. The patient takes the document home and reviews it on their own time, in their own space, often with their spouse or another decision partner. Understanding deepens between the case presentation and the commitment moment. They remember details they would have forgotten without the written record. The decision they make is informed rather than impressionistic, which produces higher commitment rates and fewer cases of post-decision regret. Comprehension and commitment travel together.
