Why is setting expectations clearly on the patient’s arrival to a dental consultation so important?

Because unspoken expectations create unspoken disappointments, and an early misalignment can quietly kill a case that the clinical recommendation would have won. The patient arrives with assumptions about what the consultation will cover, how long it will take, who they will meet, what will be discussed, and what will happen next. The team member’s brief summary at arrival aligns the patient’s expectations with the practice’s actual flow before either side can drift. The patient hears the structure: who they will meet first, when imaging happens, when they will see the doctor, how long that conversation will run, and what comes after. With expectations set, the patient relaxes into the visit. Surprises are minimized. The fifteen-minute time-bounded conversation with the doctor lands as expected, not as a disappointment that the doctor is not there for an hour. Each subsequent step lands within the predicted frame. The case progresses cleanly through to the close.

If the answers you are finding here resonate with you, my team and I work with a small group of clients each year. The next step is a complimentary Discovery Consultation and Practice Review with Dr. McAnally.
