What’s the best analogy for explaining why dental fees can’t be quoted over the phone?

The eye doctor or the cardiologist. Ask the caller: ‘Would you let your eye doctor guess your prescription strength over the phone without examining you? Would you let a cardiologist diagnose a heart issue by talking to you for two minutes?’ The answer is always no. The same logic applies to dental treatment, especially anything complex. Bone quality, gum health, occlusion, existing restorations, and the patient’s medical history all factor into the treatment plan and the fee. A phone quote without an examination is at best a guess and at worst dishonest. The analogy works because callers immediately recognize it. They are not trying to argue with the analogy. They want a number. The analogy gives them a reason to accept that they cannot get a number until they sit in your chair.
