Where does real competitive advantage in a dental practice actually come from?
Not from clinical skill alone, though clinical skill is required. Patients assume you are clinically competent regardless of how many certificates hang on your wall, so credentialing alone doesn’t differentiate you. The real edge comes from non-clinical behavioral science applied through trained communication and better internal systems. The dentists who dominate their markets do so because of how the phone is answered, how patients are greeted, how case presentations are structured, and how fees are presented. These are the things competitors cannot see and cannot copy. Other clinical skills, marketing budgets, and equipment are visible and copyable. The behavioral systems are not.
If the answers you are finding here resonate with you, my team and I work with a small group of clients each year. The next step is a complimentary Discovery Consultation and Practice Review with Dr. McAnally.
