Why are “ethical selling” and “dental case acceptance” actually the same thing?
Because both describe the same process viewed from different angles. The profession traditionally uses “case acceptance” to describe what happens when patients agree to recommended treatment. Outside the profession, the same activity is called selling: guiding a person through information, options, and a decision they can stand behind. The two terms describe one mechanism. Treating them as different things has cost the profession decades. Many dentists react to “selling” as if it were beneath them and embrace “case acceptance” as if it were a clinical metric, when in reality the steps that produce both are identical. Once a doctor accepts the synonymy, the path forward opens. Psychology and behavioral science applied through trainable systematic steps make ethical selling and case acceptance a predictable outcome for any practice that wants the foundation. Pretending the two are different keeps the profession stuck. Naming them as one unlocks everything that follows.
