How do I handle the friends and family who talk my patient out of treatment?

You get ahead of them on paper. Outside parties, the spouse, the brother-in-law, the coworker, will sabotage more of your cases than you’ll ever realize, and they do it after the patient leaves your chair when you can’t respond. So you hand the patient a single document at the case presentation that lays out exactly what their friends and family are likely to say about this kind of dentistry, and why. You preempt the objection before it’s ever raised over a kitchen table. I’ve had doctors tell me that one sheet of paper is the most valuable thing they ever picked up from me, because it saved more cases from well-meaning outsiders than anything else. Don’t pretend those conversations won’t happen. Arm your patient for them before they walk out the door.

If the answers you are finding here resonate with you, my team and I work with a small group of clients each year. The next step is a complimentary Discovery Consultation and Practice Review with Dr. McAnally.
