Why have dental patients initial next to fee expiration dates and discount expiration dates on their documents?

Because initialed acknowledgement of deadlines prevents disputes later and reinforces the psychological pull of the deadline itself. Without explicit acknowledgement, a patient who returns after a fee expiration date can claim they did not know about it, demand the original price, and create an uncomfortable confrontation. Practices then either honor the lapsed price and lose money or hold the line and damage the relationship. With initialed acknowledgement at the moment the fees were presented, the conversation is different. The patient initialed beside the date. The documentation is clean. The conversation about the lapsed price stays factual. The initialing also strengthens the deadline’s behavioral pull on the patient during the decision window. Signing or initialing is a small commitment act, and people align their subsequent behavior with commitments they made physically. The expiration date becomes more real to the patient when they had to physically initial next to it. Decisions happen inside the window more reliably.
