Will making more money actually make me happier?

Not the way most people chase it. The old habit of keeping up with the Joneses does not make you happier, and that is not just common sense, the research shows it plainly. People who pour their focus into pure consumption, buying the next thing, do not end up happier for it. What does move the needle is relationships and experiences. Time with your spouse, your family, a participatory vacation, an activity you genuinely enjoy. Those beat a trip to the mall and a big purchase every time. So before you assume a bigger income solves your happiness, ask what you would actually spend it on. Money funneled into status buys you very little lasting joy. Money that buys you time, connection, and experiences buys you a lot. Same dollars, completely different return.
