Does a weekly staff meeting actually pay back the production time it costs?
Many times over. The common objection to weekly meetings is that the team cannot afford to give up an hour or two of production time per week. The reality, observed across practices that have instituted weekly meetings, is that production doubles within a year in most cases. The mechanics: weekly meetings catch problems before they become crises, align the team on what matters, surface bottlenecks the doctor cannot see from the operatory, and create accountability for followup tasks that would otherwise evaporate. The hour of production ‘lost’ to the meeting buys back many times that hour through compounding effects on the rest of the week’s work. Practices without weekly meetings live in chronic firefighting mode.
