Why does the dentist’s confidence at the case presentation matter so much for patient trust?
Because patients read confidence as evidence of competence, and any wavering during the presentation creates doubt that no clinical credential can offset. The doctor walks into the case presentation room as the recognized expert on the patient’s situation. The patient is leaning on that expertise to weigh a significant decision. If the doctor’s speech is uncertain, the slides get fumbled, the wording stumbles over fees, or the body language signals discomfort with the conversation, the patient’s confidence in the recommendation drops in lockstep. The clinical content can be excellent and still fail to convert because the delivery undermined it. Confidence is not arrogance. It is the calm, clear presence of someone who has done this work many times before and knows their recommendation well. Doctors who lack natural assertiveness can build it through rehearsal, recording-review, and accumulated experience. The investment pays back through every case presentation that follows. Confidence trains. Train it.
