How does the mountain climbing analogy explain reaching practice goals?

Every goal has a setup, and the size of the setup matches the size of the mountain. Kilimanjaro is almost the amateur’s mountain. Get yourself to east central Africa, be in reasonable shape, hire guides at the base, and roughly 25,000 people summit it every year. Everest is a different setup entirely. More training, different equipment, a higher grade of sherpa, and only around a hundred people make it each year, with someone usually dying on the way. Then there is Fitz Roy in Patagonia, where maybe one person a year reaches the top. Your practice goal works the same way. A small improvement needs a small setup. A transformed practice needs the full expedition. Decide which mountain you are actually climbing, then build the setup it requires instead of the one you wish it needed.
