How does a diagnostic fee work as a qualifying tool in a dental practice?

The fee itself filters out patients who are not serious. A meaningful diagnostic fee, communicated with enough reason-why messaging about your unique approach, screens Type 1 patients (no means) and many Type 2 patients (means but unwilling) before they consume chairside time. Type 3 patients pay the fee without resistance because they are already committed mentally. The discomfort some dentists feel about charging significant diagnostic fees comes from the worry that good patients will be scared off. The opposite happens. Good patients trust practices that price their work fairly, including the diagnostic step. The patients scared off by a diagnostic fee were going to say no later anyway.
