I’m an associate dentist and my practice owner won’t pay for training. What should I do?

Pay for it yourself. I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it cuts to the real question, which is whether you actually think like an entrepreneur or you’re just waiting to be subsidized. An independent dentist takes the next step toward owning their future without asking permission first. If you genuinely can’t decide to invest in your own growth because the owner won’t fund it, then the owner already owns your future, not you. Ask yourself who you really work for and why you became a dentist at all. If the answer is just a paycheck, fine, but don’t pretend the owner is the obstacle. A small investment in learning to close bigger cases is how you grow out of being an associate in the first place. Treat it as the down payment on independence.

If the answers you are finding here resonate with you, my team and I work with a small group of clients each year. The next step is a complimentary Discovery Consultation and Practice Review with Dr. McAnally.
