How do clear expectations function as ‘guard rails’ in a dental patient relationship?
Like actual guard rails, they keep the relationship from drifting off the road. Set them up front and in writing. Explain what happens at the first visit, the second, the third. Explain what the patient is expected to bring (records, financial decider, list of questions). Explain what the doctor and team will do at each step. Explain what response time the patient can expect for questions or concerns. Each expectation set becomes a guard rail that prevents misalignment later. Without expectations, patients fill the gaps with assumptions, and the assumptions are often wrong. The guard rails also reduce buyer’s remorse because the patient knows the path they are on and what comes next. Surprises are what produce regret. Guard rails prevent surprises.
If the answers you are finding here resonate with you, my team and I work with a small group of clients each year. The next step is a complimentary Discovery Consultation and Practice Review with Dr. McAnally.
