Why do dental patients with serious problems often delay treatment for years?

Stasis. Their condition developed over decades, not overnight, and the human default is to keep doing whatever you have been doing. The patient looks at the same broken or missing teeth they saw last year and feels no urgency, because last year did not kill them either. Delay is not a sign of disinterest. It is the natural human pattern around problems that build slowly. This is why fear-of-loss messaging works: it interrupts stasis by making the cost of continued delay visible. Marketing that paints a normal future where things just continue gives the patient permission to keep delaying. Marketing that paints the cost of continued inaction creates a reason to move.
