What is moral authority and why does a dentist need it to lead a team through a new selling system?

Moral authority is the credibility a leader earns by visibly living the standards they expect from the team. A dentist who tells the team to follow the phone slip rigorously but then improvises on the phone themselves loses standing immediately. A dentist who insists on punctuality but is consistently late to consultations cannot enforce punctuality among the staff. A dentist who demands warmth and professionalism in patient interactions but speaks dismissively to team members behind closed doors will see the team mirror their actual behavior, not the stated standard. Team members watch what the doctor does, not what the doctor says, and calibrate their own behavior to the actual example. A doctor with moral authority can ask for stretch behavior from the team and get it. A doctor without it cannot enforce even basic standards. Earning moral authority requires the doctor to take their own principles seriously, work alongside the team on the work, and embody the example daily. There is no shortcut.
