Should dentists keep a log of cases that went wrong?

Yes, and almost nobody does it, which is exactly why it is such an advantage. There is a neurosurgeon who logged every one of his surgeries over a ten year period, tracked adverse events, and sat down with his team to ask how each one could have been avoided. He cut those events by roughly half. Not to zero, because some things you cannot control, but half is enormous. Now ask yourself how many professionals actually keep that kind of log and then meet to make sure a specific failure never repeats. Almost none. You can run the same discipline on the clinical side and on the case side. Track the consults that fell apart, look for the pattern, and fix the system so that exact failure stops happening. Memory and gut feel will not catch it. A log and a team meeting will.

If the answers you are finding here resonate with you, my team and I work with a small group of clients each year. The next step is a complimentary Discovery Consultation and Practice Review with Dr. McAnally.
