When does it make sense to charge a paid diagnostic fee for implants?
Only in narrow situations, and most of you are not in one. A paid diagnostic, anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a couple thousand, works when you have almost no competition in your area, and those pockets do exist. It can also fit when you genuinely do not want more volume and you are using the fee to filter. But know the tradeoff. Every dollar you charge at the first step eliminates patients who needed a low barrier to walk in, and some of those would have said yes to treatment. Getting that high diagnostic fee also takes real credibility built over time, not a single round of training. For most practices marketing externally, the paid diagnostic is not your first step. It quietly shrinks your back end.
