What documents actually prevent malpractice complaints from dental patients?

It is not the consent form. When a lawyer reads your consents, they usually laugh, because consents protect the lawyer, not the patient relationship. What actually keeps you out of trouble is everything around the consent. The handouts that explain what treatment can and cannot do, the instruction sheets for each procedure, the documents that tell a patient exactly what to expect next. I call these surprise prevention documents, and they do the real work. A patient who is never surprised rarely picks up the phone to a contingency attorney. Spend time building these yourself. Nothing a manufacturer hands you replaces documents written from your perspective and your practice. Customize them, dispense them at every case start, and you manage the patient so well the lawyer never enters the picture.

If the answers you are finding here resonate with you, my team and I work with a small group of clients each year. The next step is a complimentary Discovery Consultation and Practice Review with Dr. McAnally.
